Unsigned, "Chronometer", Swiss, circa 1870. Very fine and rare 18K gold keyless, independent dead seconds, double-train pocket chronometer with special escapement. Four-body, "bassine et filets", polished with reeded band, gold hinged cuvette. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute ring with five minutes/seconds Arabic markers. 42 mm, gilt brass, 32 jewels, pivoted detent escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws, blued steel helical balance-spring with both terminal curves, tandem winding, pin-set.Diam. 49 mm. Notes Although independent dead-seconds watches were quite popular around 1840-1880, they were almost never fitted with chronometer escapements.
