Timekeeper with 1 ComplicationCaspar Pfeninger a Zurich, circa 1750. Very fine and very rare mahogany bracket day and night clock with original bracket. Mahogany veneered, ebonized base, corner columns and center panel inlaid with fruitwood, side panels with hardened bronze centers, hinged mahogany back door, ebonized molded cornice set with beaded gilt brass wire, the top, which opens to allow access to the lamp, with a gilt brass urn which serves as a conduit for smoke and heat, molded mahogany crest, gilt hinged bezel. Inlaid matching bracket. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute dot divisions with five-minute Arabic markers. Gilt"Louis XV" hands, segment of the night dial with cut-out Roman numerals in a rotating silvered ring in a glazed aperture above. Rectangular, brass full plate, cylindrical columns, large going barrel, modification of anchor escapement with two pins for pallets, short pendulum with small brass bob, knife-edge suspension, top with guides for the oil lamp.Signed on the dial.Dim. Height 39 cm, width 21 cm. Notes Swiss day and night clocks are very rare. Pfeninger was a noted Zurich clockmaker brought up in a clockmaking family.
