The Barrel MakerUnsigned, Swiss, circa 1810. Very fine 18K gold and painted on enamel quarter-repeating double-faced watch with automaton. Two-body, glazed, polished with faceted bezels. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions with fifteen-minute Arabic markers, winding apertures for going train and automaton. Blued steel Breguet hands. The other side: applied gold and silver scene with a barrel-maker, his assistant hammering, a customer leaving the shop in a carriage, a fountain running nearby, the whole animated, over a finely painted on enamel ground depicting an Alpine scene with a lake.
