Baltimore Federal painted settee, ca. 1800 , attributed to Renshaw, the triple chairback with downward sloping arms with urn turned supports, above a bowfront seat supported by turned legs, retains original overall gilt decoration on a black ground, 34" h., 48" l., 18 1/2" w. For similarly decorated examples attributed to Renshaw and Barnhart, see Furniture in Maryland 1740-1940 by Weidman, fig. 56. Provenance - Descended directly in the family to the present owner.
