Kosciuszko on Horseback Patek i Czapek w Genewie, No. 650, made for the Polish market in 1842, sold on September 4, 1843. Extremely rare and fine slim 18K gold watch, accompanied by the Extract from the Archives. Four-body, “bassine” with coin edge, back very finely engraved with Kosciuszko on horseback, scrolling border, bezel chased with scrolling, gold hinged cuvette. Silver, champlevé radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, center florally engraved, snap-on fit. Blued steel Breguet hands. 40 mm. (18’’’), Cal 1, frosted gilt, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with flat balance spring, hanging barrel. Signed on the cuvette, punched with the maker’s trademark under the dial. Diam. 44 mm. Notes This watch dates practically from the beginning of the company. Patek i Czapek watches are very scarce. Most were destined for the Polish market during very turbulent times for Poland. Only 59 out of 1161 are known to have survived.
