Ami Sandoz & Fils, Geneva, No 25765, circa 1840. Fine 18K gold, small extra-slim pendant watch with bagnolet caliber. Three-body, "bassine pincée", back cover engine-turned and centered with flowers, coin-edge band with gold Breguet-type key. Silver, Roman numerals, outer minute track. Gold Breguet hands. Notes This is one of the smallest bagnolet calibers known. In the bagnolet caliber the movement is inverted and the train reversed, it runs in the opposite direction to the standard one. The idea was to make the back plate a dust-cap, an arrangement that allowed the cuvette to be eliminated and made the watch considerably thinner. Philippe-Samuel Meylan is credited with its invention.
