L(oui)s. M.(oricand), Geneva, circa 1820. Fine and unusual 18K gold skeletonized watch with movement in the shape of a vase. Three-body, "Empire", reeded band, glazed on both sides. Small white enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions. Blued steel Breguet hands. Vase-shaped, gilt brass, full plate fully decorated on both sides with engraved foliate and repeated pattern, cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, small two-footed steel cock. Signed "Ls. M." on the dial, pendant punched with the Montbeliard Assay Office mark (bull) used beween 1819 and 1838.Diam. 47 mm. Notes It is said that once, when leaving Holland, apoleon's coach got stuck in the mud. A passerby helped to get the coach unstuck, and was given a "gold watch with vase-shaped movement" by apoleon as a token of his gratitude.
