Breguet et Fils, Horloger de la Marine Royale, No. 3872, sold on February 12, 1825, to Monsieur Mittkoff for 1,500 francs. Very fine 18K gold quarter-repeating watch with duplex escapement in original morocco fitted box, with short gold chain and a key, accompanied by a Breguet certificate. Four-body, “forme quatre baguettes”, engine-turned, gold hinged cuvette with winding aperture. Notes This watch was sold by Antiquorum in the sale of the Professor Thomas Engel Collection, on November 11,1,2001, lot 319. The watch was chosen in 1923 by the House of Breguet to represent their achievements in the very prestigious exhibition “Centenaire de A.L. Breguet” held in Paris' Musée Galliera. It was described and illustrated in the catalogue under the No. 183. Later it became property of Lord Salomons, who illustrated and described it in his book under No. 62. Recently Dr. George Daniels included the watch in his book “The Art of Breguet”, London & New York,1975, fig. 305.
