Michael Hoffrichter, Auguste Vindelicorum (Augsburg), circa 1690. Very fine and rare pair-cased silver single-hand alarm watch. Outer: Two-body, shagreen covered with silver studs. Inner: Two-body with the sides pierced for sound, winding apertures for going and alarm trains. Silver with champlevé radial Roman numerals, inner quarter ring, the center with gilt brass alarm ring with steel pointer for the hours, blued steel alarm-setting hand. 38 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full plate with turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock, worm-gear mainspring set-up mounted on the back plate, 4-wheel train running along the edge.Signed on the movement.Diam. 57 mm. Notes A fine watch which apparently was considered to be worth upgrading around 1760, when a new balance/regulating system was added. Michael Hoffrichter, Augsburg. Born circa 1647 in Olerpeterswalde, Schlesion, he was established as Master 1670, and died 1702.
