Bovet, Fleurier, No. 698, made for the Chinese market circa 1845. Fine 18K gold and painted on enamel, split pearl-set center seconds watch with special steel caliber. Four-body, "Empire", spring-loaded back cover finely painted on enamel with courting doves among flowers on green background, split-pearl bezels, champlevé enamel band, pendant and bow decorated with foliate pattern, pendant and bow set with graduated split-pearls. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute/seconds divisions. Blued steel "spoon" hands. Notes The present watch is fitted with a three-arm bimetallic balance unusual for Chinese watches. A very similar watch, almost the pendant to this one, was in the Lord Sandberg Collection see Antiquorum, March 31, 2001, No. 281.
