Cartier, Paris, No. 28918, design by Atelier Albert Prévost, circa 1928. Very fine and attractive small 18K gold, lapis lazuli, and enamel, eight-day going Art Deco desk clock. Two-body, rectangular, decorated with black champlevé enamel in Oriental pattern, the base, top, and side appliquéd in lapis lazuli. Silver, square, champlevé Arabic numerals, inner minute divisions. Blued steel pointed hands. Rectangular, 34 x 24 mm, rhodium-plated, decorated with parallel dama-scening pattern, going barrel, 15 jewels, straight line lever escapement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring.Signed on the dial., case punched with serial number and engraved "Made in France", the movement signed by Majestic Watch Co.Dim. 51 x 28 mm. Notes Lots 133, 134 and 135 typify the designs used by Cartier in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Identical clocks are illustrated by Hans Nadelhoffer in his "Cartier" book, Paris, 1984. All the major Parisian jewelers called on the Prévost workshop for the design and execution of their most magnificent desk clocks. The movements were supplied mostly by Majestic Watch Co.
