Japan, circa 1830. Very fine and rare gilt brass hour striking weight-driven Yagura-dokei lantern bracket clock with alarm and Japanese calendar. Turned columns extending with turned finials, hinged doorengraved with passion flowers, mahogany bracket. Revolvinggilt brass with 24 silver movable rectangular hour plaques, setin circular aperture of the brass dial plate engraved with stylizedfoliage, small blued steel alarm setting hand, two apertures forJapanese calendar indications of Junishi to the left and Jukkanto the right. Elaborate stationary single blued steel pointer. Double-tier, gilt brass, skeletonized frame, verge escape-ment,two-arm brass balance with adjusting weights sliding inthe arms, blued steel flat balance spring, verge suspended bysilk, count plate on the back, striking and alarming on a bell atthe top.Dim.
