F. Dagoneau A Grenoble, circa 1695. Very fine leather-covered gilt brass single-hand oignon alarm watch. Two-body, oignon, leather-clad with graduated gold studs forming a rosette, gold gromets for sound, very fineextension ring for the movement pierced and engraved with scrolling, masks and foliage. White enamel ring,bold radial Roman numerals, inner quarter-hour ring, winding apertures at 4 and 8, center with gilt brass alarmdisc with Arabic numerals and steel fleur-de-lis pointer indicating hours, blued steel "tulip" alarm setting hand. 46 mm, hinged, gilt full plate with Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with steel balance andshort balance spring, Louis XIV cock pierced and engraved with inhabited foliage, alarm with fixed engravedbarrel and steel train, striking on a bell by both sides of short Notes François Dagoneau (1670 – 1742) Came from a well-known Grenoble watchmaking family. He married in 1692. A very similar watch by François Dagoneau, but without alarm, is in the Louvre Museum (inv. OA 10074).
