Outer: protective, two-body, gilt brass glazed onboth sides, bezels covered with shagreen. Inner: two-body,Louis XV, back painted on enamel with a domesticscene of three children with their mother, champlevé enamelbezels, diamond-set thumb piece and pendant. White enamel,radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers, winding aperture at 3 o’clock. 24 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, steel balancewith flat balance spring, continental cock.Signed on the movement.Diam. 37 mm. Notes Francois-Antoine Jolly (also Joly) (died before 1772) Son of Claude-Hector, he married Marie-Anne Gribelin and became "ouvrier libre" (1737). Established Place Dauphine (1748). Worked for Lazare Duvaux, the jewelers J. D. Lempereur and S.L. Leblanc, and used clock cases by B. Lieutaud and F. Goyer. He supplied a watch decorated with diamonds, worth 9000 livres, to the prince de Condé. Signed "Fran-cois Joly".
