Two-body, Louis XV, the back finely painted onenamel with a scene depicting a family having a mealoutside, the inside painted on enamel with a village land-scape,front bezel with continuous landscape, pronouncedhinge. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divi-sionswith five-minute Arabic markers, winding aperture between 3 and 4 o’clock. Gold "heart and poker" hands. 36 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with pentagonal baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement,steel balance with flat balance spring, continental cock with ruby endstone, rack-and-pinion regulator with silverplate and polished steel "arrowhead" hand.Signed on the movement.Diam. 47 mm. Notes An interesting watch by a German watchmaker; the scene on the back was quite popular in 18th century France. It was most likely inspired by the work of Teniers or Greuze. Abeler lists François Richard, working in Hamburg (Altona was then on the outskirts of Hamburg), in the second part of the 18th century.
