Jean Robert Soret, Geneva, No. 26640, circa 1780 Fine and rare 18K gold and painted on enamel, diamond paste-set pair-cased pendant watch. Outer: two-body, back with two painted on enamel portraits of a lady and a gentleman, champlevé blue enamel foliage below, top with paste-set flower, bezels engraved with repeated pattern. Inner: two-body, “bassine”polished with deep back. White enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers. Paste-set elaborate hands. 30 mm, hinged, frosted gilt full-plate with pentagonal baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, brass balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock with ruby-paste endstone.Signed on dial and movement. Diam. 39 mm. Notes Jean Robert Soret (1731-1799) was a Master watchmaker from a horological family of at least three generations.
