Patch Box H. Neisser, Geneva, No. 491, circa 1812. Very fine and very rare 18K gold and painted on enamel musical box designed as a lady’s purse. Accompanied by original morocco fitted box. Three-body, engine-turned in elaborate pattern, edges engraved with floral motifs, the top with hinged lid for a small compartment, the musical movement cover with painted on enamel plaque decorated with musical trophies. Rectangular, 31 x 17 mm, brass full-plate, pinned-barrel mechanism with stack of 14 tuned vibrating blades with dampers on the tips, pinion governor in eccentric socket for tempo adjustment.Punched with maker’s mark inside the lid.Dim. 65 x 38 x 15 mm. Notes A virtually identical box is in the Schweizerisches Landesmuseum, Seewen, inv. LM 71505. This box also contains a compartment for the “beauty spots” favored by women at the time.
