F. Rötig, Constructeur de Chronomètres, Le Havre, No. 1635, circa 1875. Very fine and rare 18K gold keyless pocket watch with chronograph of unusual construction. Four-body, “pommes”, engine-turned back, center with champlevé enameled initial “L”, gold hinged cuvette, setting and chronograph activating pin at 11 sliding for mode change from setting to chronograph button. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions with five-minute Arabic markers, outermost chronograph track divided into fifths. Gold “spade” hands. Notes This is an unusual chronograph – to activate it, one slides the lever counter-clockwise at 11 o’clock while pressing the button. Releasing the button stops the chronograph. The lack of additional push reduces the time necessary to stop it. Return to zero by means of depressing the winding crown. F. Rötig A maker of chronometers in Le Havre. In 1869, he patented “improvements in the construction of watches”.
