Brass bowl and gimbaled suspension. Silvered, withRoman numerals, outer minute ring, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down scale. Brass "spade" hands painted in black. 82 mm, giltbrass full plate with turned baluster pillars secured by screws, 13 jewels, fusee with chain and maintaining power, spring detentescapement, two-arm Guillaume anibal-brass balance with cylindrical weights and two mean time adjusting nuts, free-sprung polishedhelical balance spring with terminal curves.Signed in Japanese characters on dial, movement and box, movement punched with the serial number underthe dial.Dim. Bowl 114 mm., box 18.5 x 18.5 x 18.5 cm. Notes Between 1942 and 1945 Daini Seikosha was commissioned by the Japanese Navy to produce marine chronometers. About 500 were made. Mean time error was less than 0.1 sec/day. The back of the dial was scratched by the watchmakers cleaning the timekeeper, with an interesting account of its history.
