Unsigned, Japan, mid 19th century. Very fine and very rare small inlaid with mother-of-pearl wooden hour striking clock (Makura-Dokei). Rectangular, light, delicately made inlaid with different color sea-shells, glazed on all sides, brass handle. The brass movement casing with turned four brass columns on a wood base loosely inserted in the case with small key drawer. Revolving gilt brass with 12 silver movable rectangular hour plaques, set in circular aperture of the brass dial plate engraved with passion flowers, winding aperture. Elaborate stationary single blued steel hand. Rectangular 70 x 64 mm., going train based on European movement of Bourquin Le Jeune, No. 1325 (circa 1800) with frosted gilt full-plate with pentagonal baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement brass balance with flat balance spring, continental cock, Japanese striking mechanism set in the upper part, brass count wheel, striking on a bell above the case.Dim. 140x95 mm.Unsigned, Japan, first half of 19th century.Very fine and rare wood and brass Pillar Clock.
