Henry Capt, Genève, No. 39834, circa 1875. Exceptionally rare and very fine, small, 18K varicolored gold, keyless, pocket watch with instantaneous perpetual calendar watch with minute-repeating and chronograph, probably destined for the 1878 Paris Universal Exposition. Four-body, by “JBR”, “bassine et filets”, back elaborately chased with griffin-like monsters holding an urn, repeated pattern on bezels and band, gold hinged cuvette. Gold with red Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, outermost chronograph track, four subsidiary sunk dials for days of the week, date, months of the four year leap cycle and subsidiary seconds. Blued-steel “spade” hands. Notes Small pocket watch repeaters with perpetual calendar mechanisms are extremely rare. The small size and unusually elaborate case and dial of the present watch suggest that it was destined for the 1878 Paris Universal Exhibition.
