Ulysse Nardin, Locle, No. 5960, circa 1945. Fine mahogany two-day marine chronometer with 56-hour power reserve indicator, submitted to the Neuchatel Observatory Timing Contest of 1946. Three-body, with brass handles, all the edges protected by heavy brass inlay, the glazed upper section with hinged lid. Brass bowl and gimballed suspension. Silvered with Roman numerals, outer minute ring, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down scale. Brass spade hands painted black. 83 mm, gilt brass full plate with baluster pillars secured by screws, 13 jewels, fusee with chain and maintaining power, spring detent escapement, two-arm bimetallic compensation balance with cylindrical weights and two mean time adjusting nuts, free sprung polished steel helical balance spring with terminal curves, diamond endstone.Signed on dial, case and movement.Dim. Bowl 112 mm., box 19 x 19 x 19 cm. Notes This chronometer was specially adjusted by master adjuster Louis Augsburger for the 1946 Neuchatel Observatory Competition.
