Swiss, No. 5133, made for Tiffany & Co, sold to R.B. Watkins, U.S. Army, circa 1890. Very fine, 18K gold, diamond, sapphire and pearl-set, hunting-cased, keyless, astronomical, minute-repeating watch with moon phases, perpetual calendar and split-seconds chronograph, in original leather fitted box. Five-body, by master casemakers Jeannot & Schiebler, “bassine et filets”, front set with a circle of sapphires, back set with circle of pearls, gold hinged cuvette with photograph, diamond-set winding crown. White enamel, radial Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions, outermost chronograph track divided into fifths with five-minute red Arabic markers, four subsidiary sunk dials for days of the week, date, months of the four year leap cycle and subsidiary seconds concentric with phases of the moon aperture. Gold “spade” hands. 42 mm (19’’’), rhodium plated, 36 jewels, straight line calibrated lever escapement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with Breguet balance spring, “swan-neck” micrometric regulator, repeating on gongs through activating slide in the band.Signed on the movement.Diam. 51 mm.
