Notes The Ramazzini family The origins of this renowned Italian noble family may be traced back to Francesco de Facchini, so called "The Romaccino", who had two sons, Bernardino and Andrea (about 1522). It is from the first of these two sons that descends the Ramazzini family, whose name was made illustrious through Bernardino di Bartolomeo (1633-1714), a celebrated doctor, physician and naturalist. His nephew, Bartolomeo, cli Antonio, a St. Bernardin monk earlier in his life, also became a well reputed doctor and wrote a detailed history of his uncle's life in Latin. He married Cristina Muratori, sister of the great historian, and one of his sons, Giuseppe, became a distinguished doctor and author of several medical treatises. Giuseppe, who died in Modena in 1773, had married Margherita Calciolari whose name the Ramazzini family later inherited and added to their own.
