William Anthony, London, No. 1940, made for the Chinese Market, circa 1780. Fine and rare, large gilt brass, agate and paste-set eight day going watch with special escapement. Double body, the multicoloured paste-set bezels engraved with a formal decoration, the back set with a plaque of agate engraved with a rosette. White enamel wit Roman numerals, outer minute ring and subsidiary seconds. Gold "spade " hands (later). Unusual hinged gilt brass full plate with cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, maintaining power and twin barrels passing through the back plate and secured by a semi circular bridge, single wheel duplex escapement with brass escape wheel, plain gold threearm balance, flat balance spring and diamond endstone. Gilt brass dust cap. Signed on the back plate. h1 very good condition. Diam. 74 mm.
