Remond & Cie, Geneve, circa 1810. Fine 18K gold and enamel musical snuff box with built in watch. Rectangular with rounded corners, cover and back panels with blue translucent enamel over engineturning, decorated with small gold sta rs, the borders with champleve decoration over a black enamel ground, blue translucent enamelled side panels over engine-turning, the rounded corners with blue white and black leaf decoration, the hinged right panel disclose the watch. White enamel chapter ring with Arabic numerals and subsidiary seconds. Gold dial plate engraved with arrows and ear of corn decoration. Hinged rectangular gilt brass full plate with conical pillars, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring with regulator. Musical train with pinned cylinder and musical comb of 15 pairs of teeth and fly regulator. In good condition with few, almost invisible, restorations on the side panels. Dim. 62 x 37 mm. Notes Geneva, goldsmith, active from 1783 to 1815/20. Master Goldsmith 22 December 1783 and struck his first Master mark. Seven years later he appears to have formed a company: George Remond & Cie., which eventually became circa 1800, Remond, Mercier, Lamy & Cie. During the French occupation of Switzerland by Napoleon, J.G. Remond recorded marks which were in accordance with the laws of the newly formed Departement of Leman, i.e. his initials within a lozenge.
