Breguet No. 1238, sold to Mr. Castaneda on 6 Prairial An 12 (26 May 1804), for 1500 Francs. Fine 18K gold and enamel pearl-set medallion a tact. Double body, "forme collier", made by Tavernier, No. 1959, the cover of flinque grey enamel, seed pearl touch pieces on the reeded band, the pearl-set arrow hand applied on the revolving polished back. Gold cuvette engraved: "Breguet No. 1238 " , with eccentric dial aperture. Notes History: The revolving back of this watch, being made of polished gold, was never enamelled. Note: The name of Mr. Castaneda comes up in Abraham-Louis Breguet's correspondence and appears frequently among the buyers in Breguet's sales ledgers. As is explained by Emmanuel Breguet in his book, Breguel Florloger depicts 1775, Alain de Gourcuff Editeur, Paris, 1997, Mr. Castaneda was one of the roomers, which were specialized companies handling commercial transactions as well as the transport of merchandise, in this case, between France and Spain. Mr. Castaneda was therefore a Spanish business man who travelled regularly to France, liaising with important Spanish clients.
