Hri. Grandjean & Cie, (Le Locle), Swiss, No. 37540, made for C. Marcks & Co. Ltd, Bombay and Poona, circa 1890. Very fine 18K gold hunting cased, keyless minute repeating "Grande and Petite Sonnerie" clock-watch, made for the Indian Market. Four body, massive, "bassine et filets ", fully chased with foliage and formal decoration. Hinged gold cuvette partly engraved with flowers. Silver with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds, engraved with foliage border and centre with gold cast floral decoration. Blued steel "spade" hands. Notes Good example of the tppe of prestigious watches made towards the end of the 19th century, either for the Indian or the South American Markets.
