Unsigned, Japanese, early 19th century. Very fine shitan wood and brass weight driven pillar clock. Rectangular hooded with extended shaped back with suspension hole; light wood beading to windows on three sides of the movement, rectangular slots in sides of the trunk with brass, sectored grills, key storage draw below hour scale. Engraved brass running the length of the trunk alongside the thirteen individual hour plaques engraved with the character for each hour and all mounted on removable wood plaque, index travelling in a slot alongside. Gilt brass, rectangular flanked by two turned pillars, the face engraved with lotus flowers. Verge escapement, plain two-arm balance, flat balance spring 28 x 5 x 5 cm.
