Vienna, first half of the 19th century. Fine silver mounted rock crystal octagonal Sun and Moon watch in the style of the 17th century. Double body octagonal, with faceted rock crystal cover and back, the silver bezel and frame engraved with delicate foliage champleve enamelled decoration. Silver champleve engraved with scrolled foliage in which Sun and Moon symbols, inlaid in a blued steel disc, appear alternatively in an open sector to indicate the hours of day and night, marked along the rim in Roman numerals, the minute being shown in a conventional manner on the outer Arabic ring. Blued steel "poker " minute hand. Hinged gilt brass full plate with baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel threearm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass cock with pendulum aperture, engraved with a figure of Jupiter. Signed on back plate. In very good condition. Dim. 58 x 39 mm.
