Philadelphia Chippendale mahogany high chest, ca. 1770 , the broken arch bonnet with carved rosettes flanked by flame finials, over a case with 3 short and 4 long drawers flanked by fluted quarter columns, resting on a base with a long drawer over 3 short drawers above a scalloped skirt supported by cabriole legs with voluted returns and shell carved knees terminating in bold ball and claw feet, 96 1/2" h., 42 1/2" w. Provenance: Descended in the family of Pennsylvania Governor Gifford Pinchot from the 18th century forward until purchased from the Pinchot family by the present owner in the 1980's.
