French, second half of 19th century. A giltwood fauteuil or armchair in the Louis XV style, the gilt frame comprising a molded serpentine crest with central carved shell flanked by rosettes over acanthus scrolls, crest sides decorated with carved foliate decoration, terminating in acanthus carved arms with upholstered cushioned armrests and knuckled hand rests, the back, sides, and armrests upholstered in cranberry damask fabric, over a serpentine seat rail with central carved floral motif, all raised on four molded cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees and terminating in acanthus carved feet. Approximate height 43.75", width 26.5", depth 24", seat to floor 17".
