Three-tier Gilt Lacquered Occasional Stand, China, each rectangular tier with gilt and polychrome lacquer decorations, the top tier featuring vases of chrysanthemums and plum blossoms in a scholar's studio, the middle tier with birds and peonies, the bottom tier with birds and lotus flowers, with fluted, bulbed supports and casters, 40 x 17 x 24 1/2 in. Provenance: Descent from an English family who lived in Shanghai from the late 1800s to 1911. This stand was transported to England in 1911, then to New England.
