French, second half of 19th century. A pair of carved and molded walnut wood fauteuils or armchairs in the Louis XV Rococo Revival style, each with a serpentine crest decorated with foliate and flower carving, terminating in molded seat sides with plush upholstered arms terminating in scrolled hand rests on molded curved arm supports with outer molding terminating in a foliate scroll, the generously proportioned seat with serpentine front edge, the seat, back, and arms upholstered in conforming silk fabric in a pale aquamarine trellis pattern on mustard ground, the serpentine seat rail decorated with central carved shell and subtle rocaille motifs, the shell carved knees terminating in molded cabriole legs on scroll feet, the cabriole back legs terminating in conforming scroll feet. Approximate height 36.5", width 27", depth 22", seat to floor 19".
