After Thomas Gainsborough (British, 1727-1788) Landscape in Suffolk. Unsigned, inscribed indistinctly "William...Heygate, March 19th, 1837 [?], from his mother on his birthday" and "Copy of Gainsborough..." on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 22 x 32 in., framed. Condition: Patch reinforcements, scattered retouch and paint losses, canvas deformation, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime. N.B. The original landscape by Thomas Gainsborough, painted c. 1750, is in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria. (Damaged during preview, tears/ holes to center of canvas). With a label from Davies, Turner & Co., Ltd., London, on the stretcher.
