Thomas Green Gilt-brass and Shagreen Pair Case Watch, Liverpool, c. 1780-90, no. 1646, 35 mm porcelain dial with Roman numerals and gold beetle and poker hands, the outer shagreen brass-pinned case containing a period handwritten watch paper with the Lord's Prayer and dated 1783, the inner gilt case with enameled oval castle scene, raised dots, and oval green enameled framing, the gilt, fusee verge escapement, key-wound movement engraved Thos. Green, Liverpool, 1646 , with steel balance, pierced balance cock depicting a phoenix, plain pillars, and pierced stop work potence, cased dia. 48 mm. Note: Thomas Green was likely the partner of Liverpool toolmaker John Wyke, working together circa 1770-82. Generally in very nice condition, inside the inner case is some abrasion as if an unskilled watchmaker was testing the case material, dial and hands excellent, movement in cleaned condition.
