Benz and Thomas Gold Tourbillion Watch, George Thomas and Adolph Benz, Switzerland, no. 2, c. 1985, open face watch with Roman numeral porcelain dial marked Benz & Thomas and Swiss Made , delicate pierced blued steel hands, the open back with crystal revealing full plate jeweled movement signed No. 2/Benz & Thomas/Switzerland , with minute tourbillion escapement fitted to an 1883 Waltham nickel frame, all in a felt-lined carrying case with extra dial, crystal, and mainspring. Note: Mr. George Thomas of Maryland achieved considerable acclaim by redesigning other manufacturer's plates and escapements and fitting them with a cage design tourbillion of his own manufacture. He teamed up with Adolph Benz to produce ten copies, the present example being no. 2.
