Daniel de St. Leu Musical Mahogany Longcase Clock for the Turkish Market, London, c. 1790, the pagoda top case with marquetry inlay throughout, brass sound vents backed by fabric in the hood, brass stop-fluted columns flanking the composite brass and painted dial signed in the arch Dan(l). de St. Leu./Watch Maker/To Her Majesty/London , two subsidiary dials, object left for the four-tune selection all marked Morisea Aria , the other for calendar, chime-silent lever, central painted dial with Turkish numerals, brass hands and applied spandrels, arched waist door with inlaid classical urn, flowers and Turkish symbolism, lower section with floral oval on a bracket base, eight-day time, strike, quarter-chime and musical three-train movement with pin barrel, nest of twelve bells, three brass-cased weights and pendulum, ht. 103 in. Slight in-painting on painted dial surfaces, no significant replacements on the movement, period weights, pendulum, case of probable later origin with some veneer losses and repairs.
