René Magritte, illustrator (Belgian, 1898-1967) Aube à l'antipode, by Alain Jouffroy, published in 1966 by Le Soleil Noir, Paris, from the edition of 17, accompanied by a portfolio of seven etchings, plus illustration bound into the volume (Kaplan & Baum, 6-12). Each etching signed "Magritte" in pencil l.r. and numbered "17/77" in pencil l.l., volume identified on the titled page, further identified and numbered "17" on the colophon. Sheet sizes 7 3/8 x 5 1/2 in. (18.7 x 13.9 cm), in a paper binding housed in a clamshell box with cut-out and an encased multiple. Condition: Gentle toning to etchings. Provenance: Wittenborn & Co., New York, 1967. The sheets in the accompanying portfolio of 7 images measure 15 1/8 x 11 1/8 in., and have deckled edges. Each is pencil signed. The pages within the book are not all cut.
