Paul César Helleu (French, 1859-1927) La Duchesse de Marlborough, c. 1901 (Montesquiou, VIII). Signed "Helleu" in pencil l.l. Drypoint on paper, plate size 21 3/8 x 13 1/4 in. (54.2 x 33.5 cm), framed. Condition: Unobtrusive toning, staining to figure's left cheek, not examined out of frame. N.B. Two offset print reproductions, including one Paul Helleu exhibition poster from Galerie Andre Candillier, accompany the lot. Out of the frame the sheet measures 23 5/8 x 16 5/8 inches with a deckled right edge, and is hinged along the upper edge. The toning is even, and there is minor water staining to the lower edge. The staining to the face is primarily to her cheek but there is also some staining to her hair.
