Benjamin Champney (American, 1817-1907) Three-Panel Floor Screen Painted with Floral Motifs of Ferns, Laurel, and Elderberry Unsigned, inscribed "B. Champney/No. Conway..." on the reverse. Oil on panel, each approximately 48 x 17 3/4 in. (122.0 x 45.0 cm), set in a hinged black wood screen. Condition: Splits, losses, abrasions, surface grime, one screen section unhinged from the other two. The Fern panel is detached from the other two. It is also cracked in several places within the upper left quadrant. All three panels have minute losses and craquelure with alligatoring or separating. This is most prevalent to the lower portion of Laurel. The abrasions are unobtrusive. Elderberry has several small dents/losses to the panel that have been poorly retouched. The panels would benefit from cleaning.
