Manner of David Teniers the Younger (Flemish, 1610-1690) Peasants Dancing Outside a Village Gate Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 39 1/4 x 51 in. (100.0 x 129.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, possible skinning, varnish inconsistencies, surface grime. N.B. The 1640s and 1650s marked a change in the style and subjects of David Teniers the Younger, who moved away from his earlier depictions of peasants in dark interiors in favor of open-air scenes of feasts and festivals, often set in front of an inn or other buildings. The works became increasingly idyllic and picturesque, reflecting the growing Arcadian preferences of his patrons.
