Abraham Hulk Sr. (British, 1813-1897) Lot of Two Works: Sailing Boats in a Calm and Sailing Boats off the Coast in a Stiff Breeze Each signed indistinctly l.r. Oil on panel, 4 1/4 x 6 1/8 in. (11.5 x 15.5 cm), framed. Condition: Fine craquelure, surface grime, Breeze with losses and flaking to u.l. and l.l. quadrants. Provenance: Christie's Amsterdam, Maritime including a Selection of Globes, September 12, 2000, Sale 2471, Lot 182. Both with surface grime, fine craquelure, and yellowed varnish. Calm with small loss to l.c. 1/6 in. diameter, small loss to center 1/8 in. diameter, scattered very small losses to l.c. visible in raking light. Two dots of old retouch c.r. in sky c.r. Stiff Breeze with horizontal cracking, lifting, and losses along left edge, 4 1/2 inches high and extending about 5/8 in. into the composition. Biggest area of loss is to u.l. corner, consisting of two losses, each 1/8 in. square, located next to each other.
