Continental, Late 19th/Early 20th century. Finely carved and polychromed ivory chess set (fully complete) with ornate game playing pieces (one player with likely later light green painted finish), unmarked; accompanied with game board of rectangular hinged box form with checkered inlaid ivory and mahogany wood chess board with inlaid border. Interior of box with open storage for pieces as well as inlaid ivory, mahogany and ebonized wood backgammon board with floral ivory decorative inlay work. Board open measures 18.5" square. Height of king playing piece 4.75". Provenance: Estate of Mr. Charles Edward Brodnax "Ned" Hansell, Mimosa Hall, Atlanta, Georgia.
