Early Stuart Needlework-framed Looking Glass, second quarter 17th century, rectangular plate within a serpentine frame, worked in silk and metallic thread accented with metal purl and chenille, cresting depicting a central woman stitched with French knots and playing a lute, flanked by two chariots being driven by horses and peacocks and likely depicting a royal couple; sides depicting a standing maiden, one topped by recumbent stag, the other with a unicorn; pendant with a maiden pouring water, an allegorical figure of plenty and a woman seated under a tree with a parrot on her arm, all flanked by a recumbent lion and lioness, scattered designs of rose and a pink, caterpillars, moths, butterflies, applied to a wood backing with metallic edging, framed, mirror 13 1/2 by 10 1/4, overall without frame ht. 29 1/4, wd. 23; frame overall ht. 34, wd. 27 3/4 in.
