Painted Armchair, New England, late 18th century, the yoked crestrail on raked stiles, tapering splat, with molded arms ending in scrolled handholds, on beaded square legs joined by stretchers, old brown paint over earlier red, ht. 44 1/4, seat ht. 17 in. Literature: This chair is illustrated in The American Chair , Robert Bishop, p. 164, number 211. hickory splint seat is replaced but appropriately.
