Framed Cut Paper Valentine, possibly New Hampshire, early 19th century, circular lobed valentine with cut-work hearts and zigzag borders on a red ground, inscribed in ink all around with sentiments of love, with indistinct name "Mary ----nn-oot" at center, (creases, small losses, toning, stains), dia. 11 3/4 in., in a painted gesso frame. Due to fragility, not examined out of frame. It appears the valentine was placed on a paper or carboard backing. The backing paper of the frame has an early 20th c. Keene, New Hampshire framer's label. Some of gesso leaf motif borders on frame have flaked off.
