Schweitzer, Albert (1875-1965), Important Collection of Schweitzer and Schweitzer Related Material, collected by Charles Joy, including: approx. 30 autograph manuscript letters signed by Schweitzer, dating mainly from c. 1947-48, and approx. 10 carbon copies of autograph manuscript letters; approx. 301 8 x 10 in. photographs, most with notes and cropping instructions for use in a publication, depicting scenes in Africa (some duplicate images); a publisher's mock-up of A Jungle Chronicle by Schweitzer and his associates, translated and edited by Joy, a group of 8 1/4 x 8 1/4 in. black and white photographs tipped onto blue paper, with text blocks glued below, and penciled pagination, in folio; album of approximately 180 black and white photographs (approx. 4 x 6 in.) of Schweitzer, Schweitzer family members, European and African scenes, including images of Schweitzer working at Lambarene, and playing the organ, one picture of himself signed to Joy, one is an image of a family group annotated by him, and another a town scene also annotated by him, (some images likely taken by Joy); typed manuscripts of works by Schweitzer, including "The Africa of Albert Schweitzer", "Goethe als Denker un Mensch," and one beginning "Und mein kann sich fragen...," with notes and redactions in Schweitzer's hand; a typed copy of a working manuscript titled "Jungle Chronicle" marked Beacon Press, Boston, 1852 with edits and publishing notes; article titles "Eugene Munch, 1857-1898," for Read more…
