English, Late 18th/Early 19th century. "Report (circa1800) from the Select Committee upon the Improvement of the Port of London", engraving after James Basire (English, 1730-1802). Engraving depicts a front view of "Plan for a bridge to be erected on the foundation of the present bridge: Centre Arch of Iron, 300 foot span, so as to admit shipping to occupy the space now nearly useless between London and Blackfriars Bridges", as inscribed on the lower right of the print. Engraving is Plate II of a large folio that was published in London in 1800 and 1803, as inscribed lower center "Ordered by the House of Commons to be printed 28th July 1800 -- and to be reprinted 1803". Inscribed lower right "James Basire, Sculp; Luke Hanserd & Sons, Printers". Framed 28.5" x 43", unframed sight size 16.25" x 30.5".
