Art Deco Onyx, Enamel, and Diamond Travel "Pendulette," Cartier, c. 1929, the engine-turned silvertone metal dial with Roman numeral indicators, rose-cut diamond hands, enamel bezel, the key-set key-wind movement within an onyx case bezel-set with old European-cut diamonds, folding handle, 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 x 1 in., French guarantee stamp and Cartier maker's mark, original signed fitted blue Morocco leather box. Per Avrod was born in Egypt and spent part of his childhood traveling on cruise ship liners. Throughout his life he pursued a number of different careers, working as a mining prospector for DeBeers in Africa, often in dangerous areas, a US navy specialist who taught pilots to land on aircraft carriers, and later as a jazz pianist playing in Boston and the islands. The travel guide 'Enchanted Summer: A Romantic Guide to Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, published in 1998, recommended his performances at the Club Car nightclub in Nantucket under the stage name 'Scotty Olsen'.
